Neck Pain & Tension Headaches
Neck pain and tension headaches: care that looks at the whole body
If your neck feels stiff by the end of the day, or tension headaches keep creeping up from your shoulders, you are not alone. Many people come to Wholistic Life after trying stretching, massage, or quick adjust-and-leave visits.
Our approach is different. We don't just look at the neck. How your head and neck sit depends on everything below them: your upper back, ribs, pelvis, and even your feet. So we assess and care for the whole body, with the goal of helping you move and feel better.
Important - please read first:
Seek a physician or emergency care first - before any chiropractic visit - if you have a sudden, severe or 'worst-ever' headache; neck pain after trauma such as a fall or car accident; fever with a stiff neck; new weakness, numbness, trouble speaking, vision changes, dizziness or loss of balance; or loss of bladder or bowel control.
When to see a physician or ER first
Your safety comes first.
We may refer you to a physician if your assessment suggests it.
This page focuses on everyday neck pain and tension-type headaches. If you have been diagnosed with migraines, cluster headaches, a concussion, jaw (TMJ) problems, or vertigo, please speak with your physician about those conditions.
Why we look beyond the neck
Your neck carries your head all day, and it sits on top of a long chain of joints and muscles. When something lower in that chain isn't doing its job, the neck and shoulders often pick up the slack.
Daily habits play a part too. Long hours at a desk, looking down at a phone, driving, carrying kids, or sleeping in an awkward position can all add strain over time.
That is why your visit includes a look at your posture, how you move, and how your whole frame is working, from your feet up to your head. We don't guess at a single cause. We look at the full picture and talk it through with you.
Our approach: full-skeleton adjustment and strength-correcting alignment
Full-skeleton adjustment. When adjustments are appropriate for you, we assess and adjust the whole skeleton, not just the spot that hurts. The neck is part of a system, so we care for the system.
A strength-correcting approach to alignment, especially the cervical spine. The cervical spine is the neck portion of your spine. Rather than relying on a repeated quick "crack," our approach focuses on supporting your neck to hold better alignment through strength and correction. This is how we work; every body responds differently, and we'll talk honestly with you about what we see along the way.
Foot strengthening: building the base so the body in between gets stronger
It can surprise people that we talk about feet on a neck pain page. Your feet are the base of your whole structure. When the base is weak or unstable, the body above it compensates, all the way up.
Strengthening the feet is one part of helping the structures between your feet and your head get stronger. We'll show you simple ways to build that foundation as part of your care.
Supporting work: visceral manipulation and lymphatic mobilization
Some patients also receive gentle, hands-on supporting work alongside their adjustments:
- Visceral manipulation - gentle manual work around the organs and the tissues that connect them.
- Lymphatic mobilization - light, rhythmic techniques that support the body's natural fluid movement.
These are supportive techniques that may be part of your visit when they fit your needs. They are not stand-alone headache treatments.
Optional supports: mild hyperbaric and PEMF
Some patients choose to add optional wellness sessions for relaxation and recovery support. They are never required.
- Mild hyperbaric (mild HBOT) - sessions in an Airvida soft chamber at about 1.2-1.5 ATA, using air with optional oxygen from a concentrator by mask. This is a mild wellness session, not hospital hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Available at both clinics. Learn more
- PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field) sessions - a gentle, non-invasive wellness session. Available at both clinics. Learn more
- Red light therapy - available at our North Miami Beach clinic only. Learn more

What your first visit involves
- Conversation. We talk about your history, your symptoms, what makes them better or worse, and what you'd like to get back to doing.
- Safety screening. We review your history for anything that means you should see a physician first.
- Whole-body assessment. We look at posture, movement, and structure from your feet to your head, not just your neck.
- Adjustment, when appropriate. If adjustments are right for you, we care for the whole skeleton. Gentler options are available.
- Your plan. We talk through strengthening (including your feet) and whether supporting work or optional sessions fit you.

Frequently asked questions
Can a chiropractor help with tension headaches?
Many people come to us with tension-type headaches. At Wholistic Life, we look at how your neck, upper back, and whole body are working, then care for the whole skeleton when adjustments are appropriate, alongside strength-focused work. Everyone responds differently, so we can't promise a specific result, but we will explain what we find and how we would approach your care.
What does a chiropractor do for neck pain at Wholistic Life?
We start with a conversation and safety screening, then assess your posture, movement, and structure from your feet up. When appropriate, we adjust the whole skeleton, not just the neck, and focus on helping your neck hold better alignment through strength and correction. Some patients also receive gentle supporting work such as visceral manipulation or lymphatic mobilization.
Why would you adjust my whole spine and look at my feet if my neck hurts?
Your neck sits on top of everything below it. If your upper back, pelvis, or feet aren't supporting you well, your neck often compensates. Your feet are the base, so strengthening them is part of helping the body in between get stronger.
Is a neck adjustment safe, and are there gentler options?
No hands-on care is completely without risk, which is why we review your history and screen for warning signs before any adjustment. We only adjust when it is appropriate for you, and gentler options are available. If anything in your history suggests you should see a physician first, we will tell you.
When should I see a doctor or go to the ER instead of a chiropractor for neck pain or a headache?
Seek a physician or emergency care first - before any chiropractic visit - if you have a sudden, severe or 'worst-ever' headache; neck pain after trauma such as a fall or car accident; fever with a stiff neck; new weakness, numbness, trouble speaking, vision changes, dizziness or loss of balance; or loss of bladder or bowel control. We may refer you to a physician if your assessment suggests it.
What happens at my first visit?
We talk about your history and symptoms, screen for anything that needs a physician first, and assess your whole body, not just your neck. If adjustments are appropriate, we care for the whole skeleton, then talk through strengthening and whether any supporting work fits. Learn more
Do I need mild hyperbaric or PEMF sessions too?
No. Mild hyperbaric (Airvida soft chamber, about 1.2-1.5 ATA, not hospital hyperbaric oxygen therapy) and PEMF are optional wellness sessions some patients add for relaxation and recovery support. They are not headache treatments and are never required. Red light therapy is available at our North Miami Beach clinic only.
